After Cannes, Marie Madeleine heads to the Cabourg Film Festival

The feature film Marie Madeleine, directed by Gessica Généus, continues its run on the festival circuit. After a notable screening in the Cannes Première section at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, the film has been selected for the Cabourg Film Festival (Calvados), scheduled to take place from June 10 to 14, 2026.

Shot in Haitian Creole in Jacmel and produced by SaNoSi Productions, the film received a warm reception in Cannes, where it earned a standing ovation at its world premiere and drew significant media attention. This selection marks the Haitian filmmaker’s second appearance on the Croisette, following Freda, which was presented in 2021 in the Un Certain Regard section.

Gessica Généus, who also appears in the film, stages a confrontation between an evangelical church and a brothel, using it as a backdrop for a reflection on social and religious tensions in Haiti.

The 40th edition of the Cabourg Film Festival, chaired by Agnès Jaoui, will welcome the filmmaker, who is expected to present her film to audiences.
