As part of the CARIBBEAN CINEMA series, the acclaimed Haitian film FREDA by Gessica Généus was screened at Stadtkino Basel on three occasions:
- Wednesday, April 30, 2025 – 18:30
- Sunday, April 6, 2025 – 18:30
- Saturday, April 19, 2025 – 18:00
Freda lives with her mother, sister and younger brother in a working-class district of Haiti. They survive with their little street shop. Faced with the precariousness and violence of their daily lives, each of them looks for a way to escape the situation. Even if it means giving up her own happiness, Freda decides to believe in the future of her country.
These screenings were part of CARIBBEAN CINEMA – a curated series that goes beyond postcard clichés to explore the Caribbean’s rich cultural and historical heritage through fiction, documentary, and experimental storytelling.
