Born in 1993 in Hunan, a city in southern China, Deming Chen pursued a sports-study program while teaching himself photography during high school. During his university studies, he enrolled in an art school to study photography in greater depth and began organizing exhibitions of his photographs around the world. In 2018, he continued his education at the Li Xianting Film School, the birthplace of Chinese independent cinema, before moving into filmmaking.
Starting in 2016, he began directing films, completing his first short documentary, Everything is Normal, in the same year. In 2018, he directed his first fiction short film, Night Tour. In 2021, he made another fiction short, Butterfly Overlap. In 2022, he completed his first feature-length documentary, Song of Shiratori. Since 2019, he has been working on his feature-length documentary Always.
