In Martinique, an innovative day hospital dedicated to people undergoing psychiatric treatment explores a groundbreaking therapeutic approach. Several times a week, a young artist-researcher leads workshops combining music, dance, and Bèlè rituals. The filmmaker, an active participant in this experiment, immerses us in an intimate dialogue between his own reflections and the voices—still fragile and taboo on the island—of those learning to live with a psychiatric diagnosis.
Sculpting Memory
Sculpting Memory is a meeting between sculptor Cécile Raynal and Pierre Rolinet, 98 years old, a member of the Resistance and survivor of Natzweiler-Struthof during the Second World War. For one week, the artist visits Pierre Rolinet every day to bring forth his portrait from clay. Pierre carries within him a living memory, bearing witness to the tragedy of the camps. Cécile listens to him while her hands shape the material. We witness the birth of a work that etches Pierre’s gaze permanently into our collective memory.

Faced with this abysmal mystery, the family continues the investigation on its own.” Cécile Juan

“When my sister Gaëlle was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, I picked up my camera with the crazy hope that a film could repair the damage, break the spell of fate. The disease had already affected my mother Nicole and my younger sister Claire. The film becomes a refuge from the turmoil. A space radiant with love, where each of us must find our own way and accept the other’s, until Nicole’s final, intimate decision.” Anne Lorrière
